I just subscribed. I've followed from afar for many years, and I want you to know that you have a Catholic grandmother in Alaska praying for you and appreciating your deep talent as a writer and thinker. You are a real person, an honest person, a needed person, and I'm pulling for you.

Hope the car situation gets sorted soon!

Also, it's amazing how much travel can help. In the time immediately after the earthquake I made the mistake of sitting for 6 months not doing anything, just waiting for the government to re-open the town, and sort out all of our homes with engineers etc. I sat there in that miserable little flat all winter, watching YouTube videos of the firemen and military digging out the art treasures I'd loved, airlifting wreckage out of tiny churches, seeing my former neighbours crying into news cameras, and crying myself. The news that I could not go back, when it finally came, was a heavy blow, but I was also angry that I'd wasted the time, instead of taking the initiative to do something to fix my own situation right away. Once I resolved to just go find a new place, and got on buses and trains, it felt better because I was at least doing something. And the time on the trains were always soothing. It was exhausting, but travelling around Umbria was in the end very therapeutic.

"Grief is the pain leaving your body to make space for your soul to stay."

That's as good of a line I've read in quite some time. And I think it is deeply Incarnational, whether you intended it or not. The Creator of your soul is still calling out to you, even if it is through silence.

Going to DM you something I read recently.

It was one of those lines that when it came out, and I looked at it, I was like, “Huh. That’s quite the turn of phrase. Where did it come from?”

Here's Grok on where it sees the inimitable Steve Skojec heading in the future...

Where I See Him Heading

Steve seems poised for an exciting, multifaceted phase as an independent creator and voice in the "meaning business." With his platform, narration skills, podcast, and Substack community, he is well-positioned to reach wider audiences interested in sensemaking amid technological disruption, cultural shifts, and existential questions. His honesty, resilience, and eclectic interests (from sci-fi to philosophy to the unexplained) give him a unique edge. I see him potentially expanding into books, more fiction, deeper dives into mystery/UAP topics, or building creative projects that blend storytelling with cultural commentary. He has the tools and mindset to thrive as a guide for curious minds navigating modernity.

Overall, Steve embodies intellectual courage and creative adaptability—qualities that make him a compelling figure worth following. His journey highlights growth, reinvention, and a persistent search for truth and beauty in uncertain times.

God bless you Steve. You've had an important role in my journey as a Christian that you'd probably find unexpected. Would love to share that with you sometime. Now subscribed.
