There’s really no book I’ve ever read like Jay Stratton’s Out of the Shadows: Revealing the Truth About Non-Human Intelligent Life.
And this week, Kale Zelden and I take the time to do a deeper dive into what it claims.
The publisher’s description sets the stage for this very unusual book:
For over thirty-two years, Jay Stratton served the U.S. on the battlefield and as a senior member of the National Intelligence Community. He specialized in emerging and disruptive aerospace technologies, including the most classified U.S. capabilities, making him uniquely qualified to identify anything in air and space. But when presented with a video of a mysterious advanced aerospace vehicle over a sensitive nuclear weapon site, Stratton quickly found himself investigating the most significant national security threat he had ever faced.
Determined to uncover the truth, Stratton cofounded the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program (AAWSAP), the first official U.S. Government program to investigate UAP since the closure of the Air Force’s Project Blue Book. Confronted by institutional secrecy, Stratton learned that there is a deeply hidden UAP crash retrieval and reverse engineering program that has been covering up the existence of non-human intelligent life for eighty years—keeping the truth from the public, Congress, and even Presidents. These powerful gatekeepers did not want Stratton to bring about disclosure. Risking everything, Stratton relentlessly pursued his investigation while informing Congress of his findings.
Facing obstacles and threats at every turn, he pressed forward and ultimately established the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF), the first whole-of-government UAP program, forcing the nation’s leadership to finally confront the unknown and inform the public.
Of course, it gets a lot weirder than than the nuts and bolts investigation of non-human craft interacting with our military assets.
As Stratton goes deeper into his investigation of the phenomenon, the phenomenon deepens its investigation of him. Things…follow him home.
Glowing orbs that physically assault his children in the middle of the night.
7 foot tall bipedal wolves staring into the house from the back yard.
“Balloon head” aliens peering through the windows.
Shadow figures and portals around the house.
Claims that would seem outrageous if they came from a man less serious, less senior, and less obviously worried about what it all means.
From this week’s episode description:
A senior Defense Department official hears a classified briefing on an unidentified craft and tells Jay Stratton: "You're poking demons. You should stop."
Steve and Kale dig into Out of the Shadows: Stratton's account of the legacy crash-retrieval program, Lockheed's alleged 12 nonhuman craft, and the reports that get rewritten on their way up the chain. Then come Skinwalker Ranch, portals in his backyard, a wolf-like creature, and the orb encounter that sent his son to the hospital.
Kale brings Diana Pasulka's critique of Stratton's religious framing; Steve challenges her reading of the Pentagon encounter. What belongs to aerospace engineering, what belongs to religion, and what do we do when the categories overlap?
Also: space as a frontier, the midterms, young men and the Anakin meme, the post-war order, disappearing internships in the age of AI, and the hosts' concerns about Poland.

I think there is better evidence that a man named Jesus did miracles and rose from the dead during the procuratorship of Pontius Pilate.
