This sort of thing is a good reminder not to get too attached to one's preferred politicians, finding common ground on a few issues does not mean one shares their values as people. There are so many legitimate targets for this administration, why do this?

BTW, while you don't write much, some of your recent articles on here have been really good, specifically when you confront specific issues and concerns.

I apologize for being quiet. My life is quite busy these days and I'm desperate for time to sit and think.

I will probably explain in a post soon. Thank you for your comment.

The Left is often accused of being bleeding hearts, the Right on the other hand is accused of being callous. This is a perfect example. Good on you for having a willingness to criticize your own side of the aisle, not easy to do.

Thanks for the kick Steve! I sent nearly identical messages to Trump and Rubio and Bondi asking for them to plead (since they no longer have legal control) for Garcia's release.

Thanks, Steve, for bringing these facts to our attention. It casts this entire situation in a much different light than what we've seen in the msm and the right-wing blogosphere! Rod Dreher needs to see this.

Yes, I saw that earlier today. His commenters weren't having any of it however! Steve has added a lot of info on this case that I hadn't seen before.

I made some posts there. I definitely believe Garcia deserved a hearing, though I do think that gang members arrested as gang members (i.e., in the same venue or 'hideout' arguably do not). I was totally unaware that the source of the gang allegation was a corrupt cop. I think there is good reason for the Garcia family to sue that cop.

The commenters weren't having any of it because they have been so burned with disinformation in the past on cases like this.

Hell yeah! i subscribed only to support you on this- I was worried you would uncritically support him. Please keep paying attention to what is going on; I recently finished a doctoral program, and my international student peers are being terrorized unreasonably - visas are being revoked with no appeal process based on field of study (ppl studying things related to climate or race, mostly) for *students who never engaged in any kind of campus protest or encampments*. Once we are deporting LEGAL residents with no due process for *speech*, not criminal activity, none of us are meaningfully free.

I am Jewish, and the now-omnipresent charge of "rampant antisemitism" on campus is being used as a cudgel to create a hamfisted political culture war that is going to chill the international community on coming to study in the US; much like the tariffs, freezing international students (who often are highly motivated, stay in the US after school, increase our research output, make our universities the envy of the world, AND pay full freight) is one on the stupidest, most short-sighted, cruel policies to "own the libs" I have ever had the displeasure of witnessing. Yes, there were SOME antisemitic student activists involved in campus protests; using one's brain for two seconds can help one deduce that this was a very small minority that did not define campus cultures as a whole in the last three years- I wish people could notice when they are being played as useful idiots to facilitate authoritarian policies.

I know you are someone who doesn't like egomaniacal power trips- that's what I see constantly with Trump and those who surround him.

I'm surprised to hear about the revocation of visas.

I worry that things have gotten so out of control that authoritarianism is the next step we're quickly heading towards. I think either party would have been happy to have that kind of power. It's just a question of what flavor we're going to get.

I have a lot of thinking to do about all of this yet.

and it turns out Maryland dad was a wife better, got pulled over with a car full of illegals (totally normal to have 8 illegals in your car) and is having tropical drinks with American politicians in El Salvador. As usual, if you wait a couple of days, you find out everything you believe to be true is total bullshit.

I stand by everything I've said.

I never expected the guy to be a saint.

But no matter how long the list of allegations the administration trots out as a post-hoc rationalization for their illegal action -- remember, he has never so much as been charged with a crime -- we do not put people in prison for life without due process.

Had due process been followed, and had he been found guilty of something meriting such a harsh penalty, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

But we're living in that scene between Thomas More and Will Roper in "A Man For All Seasons," and you and others like you are eagerly taking up Roper's role:

Alice More: "Arrest him!"

Sir Thomas More: "For what?"

Margaret More: "He's dangerous!"

William Roper: "Libel. He's a spy!"

Alice More: "That man's bad!"

Sir Thomas More: "There's no law against that."

William Roper: "There is: God's law."

Sir Thomas More: "Then God can arrest him."

Alice More: "While you talk, he's gone!"

Sir Thomas More: "And go he should, if he were the Devil himself, until he broke the law!"

William Roper: "So now you'd give the Devil benefit of law!"

Sir Thomas More: "Yes. What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?"

William Roper: "Yes! I'd cut down every law in England to do that!"

Sir Thomas More: "Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you—where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast—man's laws, not God's—and if you cut them down—and you're just the man to do it—do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!"

The silver lining is that Abrego won’t be able to beat the crap out of his wife anymore. Allegedly.

He's in a third world prison with no hope of getting out. She should be safe. Why advocate for his return if he's a monster?

I'm never going to defend domestic abuse, but there are many reasons why it happens, and if people work to overcome that, should they not have the choice to decide to stay together?

I remember when Spanish Federalies ran over a boat of illegal aliens, attempting to land in Spain. The author of this article made a statement at the time to the effect that good on Spain and that action was necessary and that even if Jesus Christ was in that boat, it should have been run over.

Now, it’s weepy time over this. These online guys are all the same, neurotic, blurry eyed, chasing the latest outrage, making predictions that never come to pass. Run over illegals in the ocean is good. Send a guy from El Salvador back home is bad.
