"Languishing" is said to be the psychological term for the "blah" many of us are feeling. But the antidote may be two forces called "non-time" and "flow."
Personal experience jives with your statements on turning a hobby into a business. It can reduce the enjoyment level to the point that you avoid doing what you once loved.
My husband and I, like so many others, have drifted into woodworking over the past half year. It has helped to lift some of the ennui. We're fortunate that our children are of an age that they can be independent (and keep an eye on the less independent siblings) while we putter around our makeshift garage workshop for an hour or two.
I really want to get a new property with some land and a garage or shop. I'm not very handy myself, but my oldest son is. He wants to get into metalworking, and he's already been doing some woodcarving as well. It'd be nice to have a space to do this stuff.
I would love a dedicated workshop. My husband will be retiring from the military soon and we're exploring our relocation possibilities. At least a few acres and a shop are high priorities.

Find some property in central Washington and I know a guy who can teach metalworking :)
