Anyone who has had major transitions, and/or who writes regularly, understands that writing happens largely (in those cases) largely when there is time and space for it to happen, and your time and space is very crammed right now. So please realize we understand and will look forward to seeing your essays pop up when they do pop up. But no one is taking roll. Wish I were in a position to help you with the living quarters.
I reached out to a church I know in Raleigh to see if they know of any rooms for rent. Thought I'd ask for you.
I don't know about that, but I do sense that God has big plans for you. Really. So I'm confident He'll open a door for you. Just keep knocking until it opens up. It will.
It's been an honor to have accompanied you from the beginning... to the beginning.
I've been reading your writing for years and while words, once written, are never erased, the most cathartic endeavor is to write. Regrets? Who hasn't looked back on words written and cringed.
But at the time, those words expressed the lamentations of a suffering soul. Its how we begin to heal. You write what others would if they could.
Worry not, Steve. Right now, you know someone who knows someone.... who knows someone who will help you. I was born in North Carolina.... there are good, caring people there.
Evie's can rest now. But she's still hell bent on taking you the rest of the way, where you are meant to be for now.
Steve, I'm happy to read any of your writing: Q and A with AI, ramblings, "in limbo" ramblings, or even stuff you may have to delete two hours later (like so many of my FB post responses).
I'm so sorry to hear about the not being able to sleep. It shows just how traumatic this period of your life is. I think you're so smart to take the time hanging at the rectory with Fr. Joe. Truly believing and praying that you're going to have a soft landing in Raleigh. Or that God will provide in some way you hadn't thought of before. Praying for you on this......Trust yourself. Trust the new path because you got a lot of signs already, and you are being supported and cared for by the Divine.
Well, one is guaranteed housing in NYC. It may be a cot in an armory, and one wakes up with one's shoes taken away (stolen), but you would be housed. I've done volunteer work at Covenant House, which is IMO the best homeless shelter in NYC. But you're too old to get in I think--they only take people up to a certain age. There is parking in the streets of parts of Manhattan (like what? Greenwich Village, ah). Yes, as an experienced NYer, I park for free (one has to know the ropes) (it involves a type of parking ballet with the street sweeper, and urgent, repeated recitations of "Hail Mary, Full of Grace, Help me find a parking place!"), which I am accustomed to. I don't think NYC works for you, but remember if all else fails, you are guaranteed housing in NYC (which is the only city in the USA that guarantees housing). Two, this is where one should maybe turn to family. As I've told my children (and was told to me): you cannot turn out family into the street (and here, I'm talking cousins, siblings, parents, aunts and uncles). Maybe that doesn't work either because they don't live near Raleigh or for other reasons. If my back were up against the wall, I'd buy a trailer. I'm not sure Evie can pull a trailer. Here's the one I like on crankyape.com (below). Avoid years 2020, 2021 or even 2022 IMO on anything RV, because CV caused a fall-off in quality. The one below has got Axdel (the walls don't delaminate) and a "garage"-type door opening in back (great for loading and unloading)--can put an electric bike in there (the Lectric bikes are $1000, and the smallest weight about 46lbs and fold). I'd read reviews on youtube and elsewhere before I bid. There are RV communities online that are very helpful (I regularly read IRV2 and am on the mailing list of, for instance, being a prepper it is good to know what RVers know). Oh, and RVers may be willing to take you in, Steve (I've had guys ask to board in my RV ha ha, no way, I'm an old married lady, but the RV community is in general incredibly helpful and will help you any way they can). There are outfits that will move a trailer anywhere you want (for a price). Do your research. A trailer? Uh, I've lived in a trailer (with my Mother) at one point in my life in Alexandria, VA for about a year. It was "exciting." I was attending Georgetown University at the time (and transferred out of Georgetown and out of the trailer park). I've owned an RV (a class C). If I ever get another one (I'll never say never), it would be a trailer. One can attempt "boondocking" on public land in a trailer. So, if you're interested (I doubt it works for you, but if you're interested or curious) you could look at
The price is right so far: "zero". Oh no. Someone bid $75. Good luck. We're all pulling for you and yours. Watching Father Joe regularly on youtube nowadays, he is a wonderful priest and very funny at times!

Have you looked at the Marian Friars Minor out of Burns, NC? Not too far, but far enough?
