This is your best kind of writing! You have a gift of story telling! And Yes, go wherever your kids are!

Thanks, Sandy! It's what I want to spend most of my time doing now. The more I abandon myself to it, the more it works.

It takes a lot more time and energy, but it feels like it actually matters. If this is the only kind of writing I got to do from now on, I'd be OK with it.

In a strange way, I'll be sad if you leave Raleigh. My Mom passed away earlier this year, and my sister, who took care of her, is now in the process of moving to a small town near Wilmington. My brother moved to Durham decades ago, and I left in '89. So now, for the first time in 60 years, nobody in my family will be in Raleigh. I still have a handful of friends there with whom I'm gradually reconnecting. When my kids were young, I kept the old friends at arm's length, since the last thing my kids wanted to do on our annual visit was visit grouchy old dad's high school friends.

I was exiled from my hometown of Nashville and relocated to Cincinnati for financial reasons.

I bucked the trend.....everyone moved in and I moved out.

Cincinnati is nice but not the Boomtown Nashville is.....and yet spiritually, I have gone through a purification here. Hard to explain but I feel spiritually grounded for the first time in decades and it might have been necessary to leave Nashville to come to that point.

Moving to NOVA may hold something similar in store for you but only time will tell...in any case, continue to move forward.

Funny how that which intimidated at first has become familiar, a place to be missed as opposed to trying to find a coffee shop when you first arrived and feeling lost.

A measure of progress, they say, can't be measured day to day. One has to look back farther to compare. All things considered, you rose up and met the challenge.

Couldn't be prouder of you.

Ah, Virginia. My Pops was born there. All of his family lived there and some of my fondest memories hail from there.

The times have changed, of course, but nothing like a big family gathering, where southern food seemed endless and stories of the past were shared.

Funny how I dreamed of living there once upon a time.
