I have never been shy about saying how much I love New England. I hope you come to love it as much as I do (I know you have spent some time here already).

I hope you can find a good parish. I think you will find similar problems to what you have experienced elsewhere with traditional parishes. And ordinary parishes often have other serious problems. I will pray that God will provide for you and your family and, even if not perfect, give you something that can get you all to Heaven. It may come down to just “showing up to get your sacraments” and work to find friends and a community through other means.

But I am pleased to welcome you!

Steve, if you haven't finalized your search, you should check out the Philadelphia suburbs and South Jersey, from what you've been describing, its similar to what your looking for with 4 distinct seasons, close to the ocean, and maybe a little less cold in the winter than New England, and I'm sure Boston is similar to this, but Philly has pretty dynamic Faith communities, there's two approved TLM communities that are great, and just solid meat and potato's Catholic parishes as well. Anyway, Good luck with your move, I'll pray for you

Praying for you all. Don't stress out about writing. You'll have plenty to write about when you've settled in your new spot. Do keep us posted, though. Road trip!!

So excited for you! Moving is a pain, but also so full of anticipation and anything worth doing is going to come with challenges. It will be so rewarding in the end. New England is the place to be for so many reasons! I’ve lived in various places around the country, and it always calls me back. You get everything within a reasonable distance here. The coast, lakes and ponds if that’s more your thing, even mountains. Plenty of farm and countryside to explore as well. We have a good mass nearby, and close to the ocean so we can feel like we’re on vacation at a moment’s notice. So instead of moving, we’re trying to get out place fixed up to make it more suitable for a growing family (and endless task, it seems).

Move to Castine or Blue Hill, Me. If unaffordable, try Ellsworth or Bangor or any of the small towns around here. A number of young families moving here

What an adventure! God speed - and I've always found that if you pray and don't worry the right home for all life's various seasons will turn up exactly when you need it. True five times in my life so far ;-) ... and having a little extra money does make the whole process a bit easier. You have well earned it!

Our well started to make an odd noise, so we called the well guy. They said, "do you have water?" We did, so they said they couldn't get to us until they took care of all the people who didn't have water. So of course four days later we didn't have water, so the guy came out and fixed it.

This is in sympathy with the "everything is unbelievably slow and dysfunctional" idea. There is no reason known to me that well machinery in general should be going on the fritz, but the well guy said, when he finally showed up, that he "couldn't hire people." Because, according to him, everyone is making too much on unemployment. This could be true, what do I know?

Good luck on the move. 4 seasons and green forests are wonderful especially when they change to Autumn colors and you get that first nip in the air!
